Events/Conferences - SSDC Board and Community Meetings
To register for any of the following trainings: Please call 249-6688.
So that all participants can receive the full benefit of the trainings, please be mindful of the following:
- Trainings, unless otherwise noted, are currently free of charge. Please register only if you know you can attend.
- Trainings begin and end at the time listed. To receive credit for any training, participants must be present no later than 15 minutes after the starting time.
- For those participants who will be picked-up after the training, please make sure the driver is here when the workshop ends.
- Each individual participant must call to reserve their own space - please no calling for other people.
October 2009
- 1st - CPR (5:30-8:30PM) at SSDC, cost is $20.

- 6th - First Aid (5:30-8:30PM) at SSDC, cost is $20.

- 8th - Preschool Foundations (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Stephanie Nelson
- Guidelines of Developmental Learning for NC preschoolers (37-60 months).
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 13th - CSEFEL #2 (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Erin Hinton
- Learn about building positive relationships with children and child love languages.
- 2 hours of in-service credit.
- 15th - Room Arrangement (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Gina Collins
- Understand how a well organized room arrangement can work for teachers and children.
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 21st - It's SIDS (12:00-2:00PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Sherry Brannon
- State mandated safe sleep training for teachers working with infants.
- 2 hours of in-service
- 22nd - Fire Safety (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC, cost is $10.

November 2009
- 3rd - Better Block Play (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Donna Danzy, Stephanie McGovern
- Teachers of preschoolers (ages 3-5) will explore learning content that is easily facilitated in the block area, especially literacy and math.
- 2 hours of in-service training.
- 5th - It's SIDS (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Melissa Smith
- State mandated safe sleep training for teachers working with infants.
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 10th - Free Play (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Erin Hinton
- Why facilitation of free play is so important
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 12th - The Director's Role in Maintaining Quality (9:00-11:00AM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Chunda Teal, Sherry Brannon
- Director's will have an opportunity to identify and reflect upon best practices in administrating and maintaining a high quality program.
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 17th - Infant/Toddler Foundations (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Gina Collins
- Guidelines Developmental Learning for NC Infants and Toddlers (Birth to 36 months).
- 2 hours of in-service credit
February 2010
- 4th - Social and Emotional Dev. (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Erin Hinton
- Discover the roots of challenging behaviors and building relationships. Using the pyramid model explore the root of challenging behaviors in preschoolers and then do reframing.
- 2 hours of in-service training.
- 11th - It's SIDS (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Melissa Smith
- State mandated safe sleep training for teachers working with infants.
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 18th - Promoting Fine Motor Skills (6:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Mary Draughn and Gina Collins
- Come to this hands on session and learn fun, exciting ways to prepare children for writing.
- 23rd - First Aid/CPR (5:30-8:30PM) at SSDC
- Trainer: Ella Bunting
- The cost of this training is $25. Make check payable to the trainer.

- 25th - Fire Safety (6:30-8:30pm) at SSDC

- Come learn ways you can improve quality in your family child care home.
- 2 hours of in-service training
- 18th - Early Childhood Development (6:30-7:30pm) at SSDC
- Trainer: Erin Hinton
- Training designed for parents and community caregivers
- 20th - Early Childhood Professional Educators Conference (6:30-8:30PM)
- Location: First Baptist Church, Lexington
- Theme: "Lifting as you Climb"
- Registration will be sent out in early March.
- 30th - Social/Emotional Dev.(6:30-8:30pm) at SSDC
- Trainer: Erin Hinton
- How to keep control as a teacher and learn to be proactive rather than reactive.
- 2 hours of in-service training
